1 pound dried split peas, washed
1 cup chopped ham
1 cup chopped onion
3 teaspoons vegetable oil or butter
pink salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
In a medium pot, heat vegetable oil or butter.
Add ham and onion, cook and stir until light brown about 7-10 minutes.
Add split peas and enough water to cover ingredients.
Season with salt and pepper.
Cover, and cook until there are no peas left, just a green liquid.
